Main Stage Banner

The DigiEduHack is a global idea hackathon under the European Commission's Digital Education Action Plan. In the context of the German Presidency of the EU-Council, the DAAD, the HFD and TU Berlin hosted this year's Main Stage Event on 12 -13 November.

Local Hackathons and Main Stage Event

The DigiEduHack is a two day event made up of online and offline hackathons, which simultaneously take place around the world. Teams work together on creative solutions to different challenges in the field of digital education. The Main Stage Event is a linking moment for the local hackathons and provides an online programme for those enthusiastic and curious about the future of digital education.

Broadcast as livestream from the EUREF Campus in Berlin, the 2020 Main Stage Event was exciting to watch online: You got to know the teams taking part in DigiEduHack's local hackathons around the globe and heard about their ideas. You were invited to engage in discussions on new approaches to digital education. You learned about forward-looking initiatives and followed high-level panels and innovative talks. The programme is available here and the recording of the livestream can be watched via the DigiEduHack YouTube channel.

Three 2020 Global Award Winners

After the two days of the DigiEduHack, 253 solutions were uploaded as a result of the 54 simultaneous hackathons. In total, 2,600 participants around the world had united their strengths to deliver amazingly innovative and creative answers to educational challenges. Each of the 54 hackathon hosts chose a challenge-winning solution and forwarded it to the DigiEduHack Steering Group for a thorough assessment:

12 finalists emerged and were put up for a worldwide public vote on the Unite Ideas by United Nations platform. 4868 votes later, the teams behind the projects "Squiddy", "EduSex" and "SaveDopamine" were designated the three Global Award Winners of DigiEduHack 2020. Each team will get 5,000 € and will be a DigiEduHack Global Ambassador for 2021. Learn more about the winning solutions on the DigiEduHack website.

Online hackathon #SemesterHack 2.0

As part of the DigiEduHack, you and your higher education institution were also invited to take part in the #SemesterHack 2.0, the local online hackathon organised by the DAAD, the HFD and AI Campus.

Semesterhack Motto

Based on the successful pilot hackathon earlier this year, the #SemesterHack 2.0  provided a virtual space to share experiences, issues and creative ideas from the fields of digital teaching and learning, international exchange and virtual research collaboration.

Over 350 particpants worked on fresh concepts and hands-on solutions for the future of digital higher education. After two days of hacking, 28 project ideas were handed in to the #SemesterHack 2.0 jury. Seven selected teams share funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for the implementation of their project. To learn more about these projects click here.
